FARM

Genetics

Since 1940 genetic breeding records have been kept. As time has moved on a more technical approach has been implemented We regularly implement an AI programme from rams purchased.  We concentrate on being true to type and keep bloodlines clearly defined

Introduction of EID

We introduced EID tags two years ago for our studs, we have seventeen different family groups in the stud so this enables us to gather and store data and streamlines the record keeping and stored traceability. Our client feedback has been positive.

ZQ

We are proud to be ZQ certified.  Matangi gets audited on a regular basis and follows stringent requirements.  ZQ looks at Animal Welfare, Enviromental Sustainabilty, Quality Fibre, Traceable to Source and Social Responsibilty.  On average we produce 40,000 kgs of merino wool a year.  We aim for standards to be above and beyond the requirements. We believe that farming sustainably is best practice for everyones future.

Social Responsibility

As part of being a ZQ grower we take our social responsibility to heart.  We support many local groups and schools by allowing access to discover their local wild places.  Helen is involved with a group called “Journeys” which encourages young girls to connect by adventuring in the outdoors.

Farming with Drones

Drone mustering on farm has become an everyday occurrence.  It’s a fantastic tool that keeps animal stress to minimum, mustering time is reduced. Drones can be used for many different applications.  It’s been a great tool for farm mapping
